Hole #18

Par 5 - 494 Yards - S.I. 14 Men | 6 Ladies

Our Par 5 finishing hole is easily reachable in two shots for the longer hitters and can be as easy or difficult as you make it. The fairway is sandwiched between the 1st fairway to the left and the 13th fairway to the right, so offers a lot of margin for error on your tee shot. The tee shot is blind as the fairway runs slightly downhill after 150 yards, but the ideal driving line is directly at, or slightly left of, the electricity pylon in the distance. Don't forget to ring the bell after you have played your second shot - it lets anyone playing behind know that you are safely out of range.

Approach shots need to take account of two fairway bunkers situated 50 yards short of the green - one on either side of the fairway. The approach area slopes from left ro right, so the smart play can often entail landing the ball short-left and allowing the shot to run in from the left. Any shots that run off the right hand side can leave a very tricky shot back onto the green, so this is worth avoiding.

An Out of Bounds line lies just 15 yards behind the green so over-clubbing can be very costly on what is a quite a 'golfer-friendly' hole!

The green is slightly undulating and generally slopes from left to right, but shouldn't cause you too many problems in most cases.

Time to head for the 19th where a nice pint of your favourite lies in wait!
