Introducing the Cappro Cup®
We are delighted to introduce the Cappro Cup®, an exciting new addition to the Glynneath Golf Club calendar.
The event has been brought to Glynneath by our PGA Professional, Stuart Wilson, who first established the concept in 2011 and has successfully run it at his previous clubs.
The Cappro Cup® is an end-of-season, Ryder Cup-style match between the Captain’s Teamand the Professional’s Team. Hence, CAP & PRO = Cappro.
How Qualification Works
Players enter a season-long qualifying race made up of eight qualifying events.
There are four handicap categories:
- 10 & Below
- 11–16
- 17–22
- 23 & Above
Points are awarded in each qualifying event within each category, using a sliding scale:
1st place = 10 points, 2nd place = 9 points, down to 10th place = 1 point.
Points are awarded based on your finishing position within your handicap category, not necessarily your overall finishing position on the day.
If your handicap changes during the qualifying campaign and you move into a different category, your points move with you.
Who Qualifies?
The top four players from each handicap category will qualify automatically, creating 16 automatic qualifiers.
A further eight Captain’s Wildcards will then be selected, bringing the final field to 24 players.
Team Selection
The 24 finalists will be split into six pots of four players, with players grouped by similar handicaps.
A blind draw will then take place, with the Captain and Professional selecting players in turn to create two balanced teams of 12.
This ensures that all handicap levels and abilities are fairly represented.
Finals Weekend Format
- Saturday Morning: Fourballs
- Saturday Afternoon: Greensomes
- Sunday: Singles, played in sociable fourballs
Matches will be played off scratch, with the team selection process designed to create evenly matched contests.
What’s Included?
Entry costs just £16 for the full qualifying campaign, equivalent to only £2 per qualifier.
Those who qualify for Finals Weekend will enjoy:
- Team uniform
- Welcome goody bag
- Breakfast and lunch on Saturday
- After-match meal on Sunday
- On-course refreshments
- Team camaraderie
- New friendships
- A memorable weekend of competitive golf
